Anti-abortion group readies vigil: By Patrick Oldendorf
Having no control over a situation, that’s what happens during rape for females. Freedom of speech is all fine and dandy, but when it comes down to it we, any single person, has the right to choose what’s best for us and our bodies. For women abortion is one of those choices that men shouldn’t have a say in.
Oldendorf reports about a “40 Days for Life” movement to gather supporters against abortion. He quoted one of the supporters saying “Because we have a responsibility to give (unborn children) the right to life,” the supporter’s name is Dan Learned. Why is it that men still push to control what women can and cannot do still today in 2010? Almost every campaign commercial states that the man it’s against is against abortion. The day a man gets raped and pregnant is the day I will say it’s fair for them to make decisions about abortion. I would like you to write a response answering some valid questions.
First question, if abortions become illegal what happens to the world resources? There’s something to think about. Did you know that 46 million abortions happen each year, and even with those abortions the world’s population is sad to increase by 50% to nine billion people in 40 years? It’s true according to “World Overpopulation Killing Earth” article on suite101.com. Doing the math if the 46 million abortions don’t happen it’ll strain the resources we have too quickly and cause poverty, unemployment and starvation for many.
Second question, how many anti-abortionists have been raped? I’d love to know really, because if there is ever an acceptable reason for abortion it’s because a child is conceived during an act which can’t be controlled by the female. Yes, it’s her child too but there are inherited genes that affect behavior. There’s a chance that the child could still turn out violent even if raised in a well run household, I’ve seen this happen.
Third question, who is paying for all the children that are saved from abortion that end up in orphanages? Our country is in enough debit people are having problems paying their bills and food as it is, should we have to pay more taxes too? Abortion really affects more than just the unborn child and this is something that I don’t think many people take into consideration. I realize there are thousands of couples in the world that want to adopt, but the process to be able to adopt is tedious and not all of them are approved.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I’m for abortion in all instances. I agree that people who have unprotected sex willingly should take responsibility for their actions. That’s something I can respect fully. I also agree that just because a child in the womb that has been diagnosed with Down’s syndrome or some other handy cap has every right to live. I understand that there is a risk of ectopic pregnancies after having abortions and that the chance of a miscarriage also increases. Knowing the risks of having an abortion is something that everyone needs to understand completely before any decision is made.
The ability of a woman to have control of her body, to have abortions, is vital to civil rights. There are thousands of rape cases that go unheard of because of fear to speak
up, and many of those cases pregnancies occur and go unnoticed by the victim for months. Rape hurts the psyche enough way would anyone want to put someone through more, like carrying a child, after such an event? What if it was someone you know, what if it was you?
